Why Is 75% Attendance Required in Indian Colleges?

Most Indian universities require a minimum of 75% attendance to be eligible to sit in semester examinations. This requirement is mandated by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and enforced by most central and state universities. Some universities set it at 80% or 85% for professional courses.

If your attendance falls below 75%, you may be detained from writing the exam, resulting in failure of the entire semester. Some colleges allow a condonation of up to 10–15 absent days for medical or personal emergencies, subject to the principal's discretion.

Smart attendance planning means knowing exactly how many classes you can afford to miss and still stay at or above 75%. This calculator gives you that number so you can plan leaves, sick days, and personal time without risking your exam eligibility.
