CGPA to Percentage Conversion Formulas by University
Different Indian universities use different formulas to convert CGPA to percentage. The most common is the CBSE formula: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. This is used by most central universities and many private institutions. For a CGPA of 8.0, this gives 76%. For 9.0, it gives 85.5%.
Anna University uses a different formula: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. So a CGPA of 8.0 at Anna University equals 75%. This makes Anna University results look slightly lower in percentage than CBSE results for the same CGPA.
VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University) has updated its conversion to approximately CGPA × 10, making it simpler. A CGPA of 8.5 = approximately 85%. Always verify with your specific university's academic regulations for official conversion.
