๐Ÿ“ Formula & Method

EV Charging Time

Charging time (hours) = Battery capacity ร— (Target SOC โˆ’ Start SOC) รท 100 รท Charger power รท Charging efficiency

Efficiency is entered as a percentage and converted to a decimal. Actual charging can slow near a high target SOC.

๐Ÿ“‹ How to Use

  1. 1

Enter the usable or rated battery capacity.

  2. 2

Enter the starting and target state of charge.

  3. 3

Enter charger power and expected efficiency.

  4. 4

    Calculate the estimated charging duration.

How EV Charging Time Is Estimated

The calculator first finds the battery energy represented by the SOC increase, then divides by charger power and efficiency. Real sessions may take longer because vehicles taper charging power, especially near full charge, and may condition the battery.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Methodology & Accuracy

Formula: Uses the standard mathematical formula shown in the Formula & Method section above. All computations run client-side in your browser โ€” no data is sent to our servers.

Data sources: Tax bands, contribution limits and regulatory rates are taken from official US (IRS, SSA) and UK (HMRC, gov.uk) publications for the current tax year, and updated when bands change.

Last reviewed: June 2026 · General formula used: EV Charging Time · Accuracy: Results are precise to two decimal places using IEEE-754 double-precision arithmetic. Intended for educational and planning use only.
